AutoSub AE: Easy Subtitles from CSV and SRT Files

Introducing the AutoSub AE: Easy Subtitles from CSV and SRT Files script for After Effects.

This script allows you to easily create subtitles in After Effects from SRT files, as well as from CSV tables, without any extra embellishments. You can customize all style settings (font, size, stroke, color, alignment, etc.) either before or after creating the subtitles, and the script will help you apply these styles to all subtitles simultaneously. All you need is a correctly formatted subtitle file in either format. The script also enables you to edit and save the files.

The script offers flexible settings for the input CSV file to best match the timecode format in CSV.

Script Features:

  • You can use two time formats in your file - HH:MM:SS:FF or HH:MM:SS.
  • The delimiter between timecodes in the CSV file can be any character you specify in the CSV source. For example, you might receive a CSV file with timecodes like these - 00:00:01 || 00:00:02, 00:00:01 - 00:00:02, 00:00:01 --> 00:00:02, 00:00:01 -> 00:00:02 etc - in all these cases, the script will work.
  • The script performs a preliminary check of the CSV table and the standard SRT file and can indicate missing lines, incorrect, or missing timecodes.
  • You can specify ranges (e.g., 1-10, 12, 15-18) of subtitles to output in AE if you need only specific subtitles or want to preview the result.
  • You can edit subtitles directly in the script interface and save them back to the source file.
  • If the created subtitles in the AE project composition are too long, the script will check which ones exceed the composition boundaries.
  • The script allows you to create subtitles both by using multiple text layers and keyframes on a single text layer.
  • The script lets you easily and quickly change the style of all subtitles at once (whether they are created layer by layer or as keyframes), even after they have been created and there are many of them.
  • If your CSV and SRT files specify both start and end timecodes, the script can use either both start and end timecodes or only the start timecodes (in this case, each subtitle will end where the next one begins).
  • The script can convert a CSV file into SRT, and you can then use the SRT file.
